SAN ANTONIO – The top prize of San Antonio’s three-team trade is set to make his Spurs debut on Wednesday night.

San Antonio acquired guard De’Aaron Fox, along with reserve guard Jordan McLaughlin, from the Sacramento Kings on Sunday.

Fox’s Alamo City arrival is not much of a surprise, considering that he named the Spurs as his preferred destination shortly after the Kings told him that he would be placed on the trading block.

When the Spurs officially announced the deal on Monday afternoon, the team initially said Fox would wear the No. 2 jersey while McLaughlin would wear No. 11.

When Fox officially takes the floor, he will wear a different number: No. 4.

Fox, who was born in New Orleans before his family moved to Katy in the Greater Houston area, is married to Recee' Fox (née Caldwell), who was raised in San Antonio.

Recee' has a prolific basketball career all to her own. Like Fox, she was named as a McDonald’s All-American during her senior year of high school. She attended and played at Johnson High School, but Recee' was later homeschooled to focus on training with her father — as well as SA Finest founder and coach Ray Caldwell — before she leaped to Division I basketball.

Recee' played at three high-major programs during her college basketball career: UCLA, Texas Tech and California. When she suited up for the Red Raiders for two seasons, Recee' also wore No. 4.

Not only is Fox paying homage to his wife, he is also joining a long line of well-known Spurs to wear No. 4.

Among the famous No. 4’s in Silver and Black:

  • Steve Kerr, two-time NBA champion with the Spurs (1999, 2003)
  • Sean Marks, 2005 NBA champion with the Spurs
  • Michael Finley, 2007 NBA champion with the Spurs
  • Danny Green, 2014 NBA champion with the Spurs
  • Derrick White, played parts of five seasons with the Spurs

Fox and the Spurs will take on the Atlanta Hawks at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
