The Times reported that both would commit up to $100 million to the $650 million bid. The unions at Tribune papers have pushed for alternative buyers for the company’s papers. Gregory Pratt, a Chicago Tribune reporter and the head of the paper's guild, said they are “heartened” by Wyss' interest.
