Willem Dafoe has said that, for him, the process of making a movie always eclipses the finished product.

Darren Aronofsky’s “The Whale,” the Marilyn Monroe drama “Blonde,” Alejandro González Iñárritu’s “Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths” and Guadagnino’s “Bones and All,” with Timothée Chalamet, will all have their world premieres in competition at the Venice International Film Festival this fall.

Actor Willem Dafoe is set to receive an honorary doctorate from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee next month.

This week’s new entertainment releases include an album from pop singer-songwriter Mitski, the opening ceremonies of the winter Olympics from Beijing and the documentary “Torn” about the aftermath of a climbing tragedy.

The Berlin festival, which runs from Feb. 20 to March 1, has a slimmer lime-up than in previous years. While British actor Jeremy Irons will head the jury, Chatrian said the other judges won't be announced for a while yet.
