18-wheeler catches fire on far East Side

An 18-wheeler caught fire Saturday afternoon on the far East Side.

The incident happened on I-10 between Loop 1604 and FM 1516.

The fire started in the engine, but the driver has no idea how it started, police said.

Authorities said the driver was able to pull over and get out of the truck safely.

Fire crews were able to extinguish the blaze.

Traffic was backed up for a while but is now flowing smoothly.
