SAN ANTONIO – The recent film adaptation of Stephen King’s "It" woke a sleepy and sagging box office last weekend and is once again expected to finish first during its second weekend in theaters.
So which movie will finish second?

"It" opened with the highest September opening in history along with the highest debut for any horror movie, pulling in a massive $123.4 million in its first week. This time around, the movie is likely to make $60 million.
Competing with "It" this week is director Darren Aronofsky’s horror thriller "Mother!" which according to pre-release tracking numbers is expected to open in the $12 million to $15 million range.

"Mother!" has an amazing cast of stars including Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer and is about a young woman whose peaceful life with her husband at their country home is disrupted by the arrival of another mysterious couple.
Expects believe the film will suffer with audiences due to the similarity of genre and the popularity of the latest Stephen King adaptation.
"Mother!" will open in roughly 2,500 theaters and has an approval rating of 74% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Also entering theaters this weekend is the action thriller "American Assassin", starring Dylan O'Brien and Michael Keaton which has an approval rating of just 41% on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie is based on the long-running series of Vince Flynn novels.
The film's premise is about a young CIA agent who teams up with a Cold War veteran to try to stop the launch of missile in the Middle East. The movie may in fact finish in second and could make up to $20 million, according to some estimates.

American Assassin
