SAN ANTONIO – “American Idol” fans in San Antonio are still cheering for their hometown favorite even if we haven’t been able to see many of his performances on the show.

The Hollywood duet round aired Monday night and Dawson Wayne advanced, but you wouldn’t know that from watching the episode.

On his Instagram page, Wayne said both he and duet partner Sarah Mac advanced to the showstoppers round.

That’s the final round before the judges announce the top 24 contestants.

The duo sang the Bruno Mars hit, “Talking to the Moon.” You can listen to a clip of their 3 a.m. rehearsal on Wayne’s Instagram post.

It’s not clear why producers left Wayne out of the episode, but they’re bound by the time constraints of the show. That means the most compelling and dramatic storylines are chosen.

The showstopper round will air in two episodes — Sunday and Monday at 7 p.m.

Wayne’s performance will air on Monday night.

From there, judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie will narrow the contestants to 24, then 16 and then 12.

The top 12 compete on the live shows.
