Nintendo will increase production of Super NES Classic, putting 'many more' consoles on shelves

Nintendo will relaunch NES Classic next summer

Good news for the nostalgic -- Nintendo will continue to ship the retro-inspired Super Nintendo Entertainment System Classic into 2018.

Shipments of Super NES Classic Edition were scheduled to stop at the end of the year, but on Tuesday the company announced it would ship more consoles to stores on Sept. 29, it's official release date, than the number of those shipped in 2016.

Nintendo will also make regular shipments of the consoles to stores following its Sept. 29 launch date.

The Super NES Classic Edition system features 21 Super NES games such as Super Mario World, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and Super Metroid.

The consoles, which plug into most TVs via an HDMI cable, go for $79.99. Amazon, Game Stop and Target are just a few of the stores that have stopped accepting pre-order requests for the console.

Next summer, Nintendo will also relaunch production of the NES Classic Edition for $59.99. Details on its release have yet to be released. More information on the NES Classic Edition can be found on the Nintendo website.
