SAN ANTONIO – The area just south of downtown is one of the fastest growing areas in San Antonio.
Thanks to a private/public partnership, there is a new complex of lofts ready to open its doors to residents in South San Antonio in January.
Cevallos Lofts is a one-of-a-kind complex.
It is a four-level complex with 252 units and 19 floor plans. You can have a view or downtown or, because of the rectangular construction, you can get a great view of the courtyard and pool.
"I think this is what the mayor is talking about when he talks about bringing people downtown and getting them together," said John Kenny, executive director of the trust public facility corporation.
The complex, that already has 110 units pre-leased, also has an underground garage that has garages. There are sitting areas, a workout area and TVand game room.
"The owners took so much time in making it very unique, making it different, making it it's own community," said ReyAnne Schmidt, community manager.
There are one- and two-bedroom lofts. There are four different finish-outs. They range from about $500 to $2200 per month for the custom unit.
The complex was supplemented with money from the federal government. Twenty-five percent of the units are workforce housing, below market rates.
The complex is located near the South river extension and restaurants, bars and downtown.
Some occupants may want to have their own business at home.
There are nine live/work units. There is a door that opens to the street. It allows the resident to have a small business on the first floor, then live on the second.
"I have been here all of my life and this is the most dynamic time we've had for Downtown San Antonio," Kenny said.
