SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio Mexican restaurant was shut down for three days after receiving 73 demerits.
Sary's Mexican is located in the 6100 block of Montgomery on the city's northeast side.
Health inspectors found several violations, including:
- Multiple food temperature concerns
- Improper food handling
- Moldy fruit
- No hot water at a sink
- Signs of insects
The owner's daughter Sara disagreed about the insects.
"We didn't have none at all but that's what she said," said Sara.
Sara told KSAT that in seven years, it was the first time the restaurant was shut down.
"We don't get together like we should to, for it to be proper," said Sara. "How it's supposed to be. But I know from this point on, it's gonna be proper, the way they want it.
Thirty-one demerits is a failing score, according to the Metro Health restaurant ratings.
