Local soldier returns home to open arms

Franciso Gonzalez was deployed to Afghanistan

SAN ANTONIO – Hugs and kisses of joy took place at San Antonio International Airport on Wednesday evening when a local soldier stepped off a plane and was greeted by several family members.

Franciso Gonzalez, 20, returned from Afghanistan after being deployed for over a year.

His mother, brother, grandparents, aunts and uncles were all on hand to welcome him home.

After a long embrace, Gonzalez's mother said was thrilled to have him home -- even though it will only be for two weeks.

"I'm glad he's back, and I'm going to take advantage of the two weeks that he's here," said Diana Castaenna, Gonzalez's mother. "I wish he wouldn't have to leave, but that's his job."

After two weeks of enjoying family, friends and food, Gonzalez will head for a base in Seattle.
