Law firm combats graffiti

SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio attorney has taken a stand to help wipe out the graffiti problem plaguing the city.

Graffiti is unsightly, hurts property values and can be costly and time consuming to cover up.

"As you drive around San Antonio, it's not hard to see graffiti that's rampant around the city," attorney Burke Marold said.

Marold said he was so fed up, he decided to take matters into his own hands and organized a graffiti abatement initiative.

"The city only has so many resources and people to keep up on it and I thought it was about time for a citizen to stand up and create a volunteer organization to abate the graffiti," he said.

One Saturday a month, Marold rounds up volunteers to paint over problem areas. Supplies are provided through the city's Graffiti Abatement Program.

"All it is is two hours every month and we can hopefully clean up part of the city," Marold said.

This is just one way that Marold's law firm is giving back to the community. The firm also gives a percentage of its profits to local organizations. It donates 10 percent of net annual revenue to nonprofits to help the homeless and keep kids in school.

"I think it's good to give back," Marold said. "You drive around and you can see what work you've done and where there used to be graffiti and now there's not and it's a good feeling."

Volunteers will meet to paint over graffiti Saturday morning from 8:30 to 10:30. If you would like to help, call 210-701-0829.
