Tax preparation businesses sued by Justice Department

SAN ANTONIO – The United States Justice Department has filed a lawsuit against a tax preparation company in San Antonio.

Pete Gutierrez and Jeanette Gutierrez, who do business as Fast Cash Refund Express and Fast Cash Refund Express Electronic Services, are accused of claiming false deductions and tax credits on tax returns.

According to the lawsuit, 96 percent of audited tax returns prepared by the couple, resulted in customers owing additional taxes.

The Justice Department says the combined total of underpaid taxes on the audited returns exceeded $2 million.

The government is seeking to bar the Gutierrezes and their companies from preparing any future federal tax returns.
