Summer is a great time to keep the freezer stocked with frozen grab-and-go treats. So, Consumer Reports taste-tested several ice cream bars and sandwiches to find the best.
They evaluated 21 different goodie, including bars from Dove, Good Humor, Haagen-Dazs and Klondike.
Good Humor bars were the lowest rated dark chocolate ice cream bars tested. Testers described the coating as thin and waxy, with ice cream that tasted of artificial vanilla with a hint of wooden stick.
Haagen-Dazs and Dove got sweeter reviews and rated excellent for dark chocolate treats.
However, they are pricey at $1.25 a bar and have a lot of fat and calories.
Also scoring well were ice cream sandwiches from Walgreens. Old Fashioned Ice Cream Sandwiches cost 50-cents each and they were the only ones that were not gummy.
If you want to satisfy a craving with fewer calories, testers rated Whole Foods 365 Everyday Value frozen strawberry bars excellent and the strawberry bars made by Whole Fruit almost as good.
