Child strangulation prompts blinds recall

Air compressors, Rayovac battery packs recalled

Nearly a 460,000 window blinds have been recalled after the death of a 2-year-old Michigan girl.

The recall involves Blind Xpress vertical blinds that do not have a cord-tensioning device that attaches to the floor or wall and horizontal blinds that do not have inner cord stop devices.

The toddler died after getting her neck trapped in the loop of a blind cord.

For information on making window blinds safer and for repair kits, consumers can contact the Window Covering Safety Council www.windowcovering.org.

Child safety advocates urge all home owners where children are present to check all blinds for potentially dangerous cords on side, front and back.

Nearly 460,000 air compressors have been recalled because the motor can overheat, causing a fire hazard. There have been 10 reports of overheating.

The numerous recalled models were manufactured by DeVilbiss Air Power Co., but sold under the Craftsman, EX-CELL, Porter-Cable and Pro-Air II brand names.

Recalled models have air slots at the end of the motor that form aĀ  horizontal and vertical grid.Ā  The model numbers can be found at www.cpsc.gov.

BatteriesPlus has expanded its 2011 recall of RAYOVAC-brandedĀ  replacement battery packs used with a variety of cordless power tools.

The replacement pack can explode, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

They were sold since June 2008 as replacement packs for Black and Decker, Bosch, DeWalt, Makita, Lincoln, Milwaukee, Panasonic, Rhyobi and Skil tools.

Consumers should remove the battery packs and contact BatteriesPlus www.batteriesplus.com onhow to return the product for a store credit.
