Thunderbird Band gets highest score of any band in any classification competing

The Judson Independent School Districts Wagner High School band has won the U.S. Bands National Championships in New Jersey.

SAN ANTONIO – The Judson Independent School District's Wagner High School band has won the U.S. Bands National Championships in New Jersey.

The Thunderbird Band left for New York last week, uncertain of what kind of post-hurricane conditions they would have to deal with upon arrival.

Despite the adverse conditions, the band pulled through with a score of 97.288.

Wagner won in the Class 5 and Class 6 open competition, and earned the highest score of any band in any classification competing.

The band also garnered best music, best visual, and best percussion awards.

The contest was held Nov. 9-11 at the Meadowlands Stadium and involved more than 80 high school bands competing in 12 different classifications.

The band will return to San Antonio late Wednesday night.
