If you're thinking of putting in new flooring, floating flooring can be an easy-to-install, affordable option.

Consumer Reports tested several types to see how they hold to up foot traffic, stains and falling objects.

Top ratings went to Snapstone ceramic tiles sold at Lowe's for about $7.50 a square foot.

If you have your heart set on wood, they top-rated a prefinished bamboo flooring from Teragren that costs $7.50 a square foot.
