Body found on railroad tracks in northeast San Antonio

Man's body discovered on railroad tracks near I-35 and Thousand Oaks

SAN ANTONIO – Police are investigating how a man's body ended up on some railroad tracks in northeast San Antonio.

A driver discovered the body around 2:45 a.m. at the tracks on Thousand Oaks near Interstate 35, and told police it appeared as if the man had been struck by a car.

"We found an unidentified male lying on the tracks, and he had some trauma to his head and some head bleeding," San Antonio police Sgt. Wayne Cannon said.

Police believe the man had only been on the tracks for a short time before he was found. Investigators said officers had driven through the area about 10 minutes before the body was reported.

They also ruled out a train accident as the cause of death.

"We actually checked on that with the railroad, and they said the trains weren't going by during that time frame," Cannon said.

San Antonio police said they are investigating his death as a hit-and-run, but are also looking into whether the man had been killed and dumped on the tracks.

The victim was believed to be in his 30s. His name has not been released.
