Man arrested in Daniel's Food Mart robbery

SAPD: Suspects get away with cash, store owner's keys

San Antonio police arrested one man in connection with a hold-up late Monday on the city's West Side.

Police said three men robbed the owner of Daniel's Food Mart in the 200 block of Castroville Road at 11:15 p.m.

"They were waiting for us to close, because right after we were about to put the locks, I seen them coming," said Mohammad Anshasi. "One of them put a gun to my head while I'm in my car sitting, and he said, 'Get out of the truck.'"

Anshasi said the men then took his keys and the cash that he was taking home to count, and took off on foot.

SAPD launched its Blue Eagle helicopter to search the area near the store and found one of the men hiding behind a house on Chihuahua, where officers also found the keys and a gun.

Reynaldo Cantu, 24, was arrested on a robbery charge in connection with the incident.

Two other men were detained but released.

Anshasi said they were regular customers at Daniel's and had nothing to do with the robbery.

He said he was unable to give police a clear description of the robbers.

"I wasn't sure, because really, my attention was more where the gun was pointing than who was holding it," Anshasi said.

Now he said he wants better lighting in the streets around his store, because he thinks it could prevent future robberies.

"Whoever is trying to do something like that, once he sees light and brightness, he's going to be scared," Anshasi said.
