Teen's murder trial underway

Jonathon Rosario accused in stabbing death

A fight between two groups of teenagers on the night of Dec. 2, 2012, left Kevin Hill, 19, dead and Jonathon Rosario, who was 17 years old at the time, facing murder charges.

Another teen Romello James testified Friday in Rosario's trial. He said the groups had met in a north-side neighborhood to continue a fight that had begun several days earlier. He said he was fighting one teen while others nearby were also fighting.

James said he was beaten up, and he and several others, including Rosario, got into a car and were leaving when he heard Rosario discussing a fight in which he'd been involved.

"He said that he got that black guy good," James testified.

During opening remarks, Rosario's attorney told the jury it was a case of self-defense. He said Hill had his client pinned to the ground and was savagely beating him, and that Rosario feared for his life when he stabbed Hill once in the chest.

Testimony will continue on Monday in Judge Maria Tessa Herr's 186 District Court.

If he is convicted Rosario is facing a maximum punishment of life in prison.
