Arrest made in 2011 murder

Malcolm Gandy arrested in murder of Jake Arredondo

It took nearly three years to make the case, but police now believe they've solved the September 2011 murder of Jake Arredondo.

Police arrested 22-year-old Malcolm Gandy and charged him with the murder.

They said Gandy and the victim were involved in an argument at Medical Center apartment on Sept. 1, 2011.

Detectives said witnesses spotted Arrendondo running from Gandy and beating on a door for help.

Gandy then reportedly fired shots, hitting Arrendondo, and then fled the scene.

EMS pronounced Arrendondo dead at the scene.

Gandy was identified as a suspect after the shooting, but claimed he was at work at the time of the shooting.

After checking employment and cellphone records, police determined Gandy had lied about his whereabouts.
