Man found shot to death inside car identified

Daniel Coronado, 26, found dead inside parked car near Yucca and Wheatley Avenue

SAN ANTONIO – A man who was shot in the head and found dead inside a car on the East Side has been identified by the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office.

A San Antonio police officer patrolling the area discovered the body of 26-year-old Daniel Coronado inside a Ford Fusion at the corner of Yucca Street and Wheatley Avenue around 1 a.m. Tuesday.

"The officer went over to check on who was in the driver's seat. It appeared to be the window, the driver's side window, was shattered, and once he looked in he saw that the male victim was slumped over," said San Antonio Police Officer Douglas Greene.

San Antonio police officials say Coronado was shot in the right temple at close range, and had gunpowder residue on his head.

The driver's side window was blown out, and police believe the shooter was inside the car with Coronado.

Police said the shooting happened in a dark, secluded area so details have been limited.

"What we know is that there were no calls for any shots heard in the area, or anything like that, so still homicide unit is investigating every option to see if there were any witnesses," said Greene.
