SAN ANTONIO – The FBI's citizens academy members were locked, loaded and ready to fire.

"The purpose of the citizens academy is to acquaint the average citizen with what the FBI does on a daily basis," said FBI special agent Erik Vasys.

There were four stations set up. Each one with an instructor, a bucket of ammo and FBI-issued weapons.

"As you can see we are shooting four different weapons systems that the FBI uses on a daily basis, except for our old 1920s Thompson submachine gun," Vasys said.

The weapons are deadly devices used by agents as a last resort.

"We see it on TV we  see it in the movies, but we are just learning a whole other aspect of it," said Wende Preston, a member of the citizens academy.

Agents are required to participate in weapon training four times a year.

"It's nice to come out here and see their perspective on how to handle firearms. The way they shoot as opposed to the way I learned how to shoot is quite different," said Brian Bounds, a member of the citizens academy.
