COMAL COUNTY, Texas – Starting at 6 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 10, the burn ban will be reinstated for the unincorporated areas of Comal County.

According to Fire Marshal Wayne Ellington, dry and windy conditions have raised the Keetch-Byrum Drought Index in Comal County to 509 points.

When the KBDI reaches 500 points, the risk of wildfires, even from controlled burning, increases.

Authorities are requesting that all outdoor welders call the Fire Marshal's office at 830-643-3748 to receive a verbal safety plan prior to welding.

In addition, citizens may use a barbcue pit that is off the ground and used for cooking only.

All other outdoor fires are prohibited.

Comal County Commissioners met today and approved Order 348, restricting outdoor burning in some areas.
