World's oldest okapi dies at SA zoo

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Zoo is sad to announce the passing of Chuma, the okapi, who passed away early Saturday morning.

Chuma was 29-years-old and was the oldest known okapi in the world; the average median life expectancy of an okapi is 17 years.

Chuma brought tremendous joy to staff and was awe-inspiring to the guests who visited him and he will be greatly missed.

A necropsy will be performed to determine cause of death.
