Mark Anthony Gomez, 24, arrested after chase across San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO – A man who San Antonio police said pointed a gun at officers and led them on a chase was arrested early Wednesday morning.

Police said the suspect -- identified late Wednesday afternoon as 24-year-old Mark Anthony Gomez -- pointed a gun at officers at the intersection of Badger Street and Martin Luther King Drive around 1:30 a.m.

A chase ensued and Gomez led officers all the way to the near North Side near Blanco Road, police said.

Police said Gomez finally came to a stop north of West Avenue behind Churchill High School and fled on foot.

He did not get far as officers were able to catch and arrest him with the assistance of SAPD's Eagle helicopter.

Gomez was arrested and charged with evading arrest/detention-vehicle, police said. Officials did not say why Gomez pointed a gun at the officers.
