Teen recalls father killed in botched drug deal

Richard Chapa, 38, killed while on drug deal with his son

SAN ANTONIO – Isaac Chapa, 15, was the last to person to see his father alive.

He was on his way to a drug deal when his father, 38-year-old Richard Chapa, decided he would go along.

"He was like, 'I don't want anything to happen to you.' So he basically protected me," said Isaac Chapa.

The drug deal turned violent and Richard Chapa was shot in the leg near a home in the 5900 block of Stoney Creek on Monday.

"Basically the bullet was for me. It wasn't for my dad," Isaac Chapa said.

Richard Chapa was rushed to the hospital but died on the way there. His family described him as a loving father and husband, who would do anything for his family.

"I don't understand how somebody can just take the life of somebody like that. He has five kids," said Richard Chapa's wife, Christina Chapa.

Police have identified the men responsible for shooting Chapa as Gerardo Raul Rodriguez, 17, and Sergio Cisneros, 19. Both are wanted on capital murder charges.

Crimes Stoppers will pay up to $5,000 for information that leads to the arrest of Rodriguez and Cisneros.

Anyone with information is urged to call 210-224-STOP (7867) or toll free at 1-800-233-7867. As always, you do not have to give your name when you call.
