2016 Olympic swimming team to hold training camp at Northside Swim Center

Camp to take place July 2016

SAN ANTONIO – The 2016 Olympic swimming team will hold a training camp in San Antonio at the Northside Swim Center, the team announced Thursday.

The athletes who will represent Team USA in Rio de Janeiro at the 2016 Olympic Games will train at the center July 13-21, 2016.

"I'm honored that it's in my hometown. I'm honored to be here helping introduce it," said 2012 silver medalist and Churchill graduate Jimmy Feigen. "It's going to be one of the best training camps I think in a long, long time. I can't wait to be here to represent the USA with distinction."

Feigen swam at the center once in high school and hadn't even had a chance to see the outdoor pool before today. He's already working on representing the United States again in 2016.

"The Olympics is not every four years, it's every day. Every single day you're training and every single day you're thinking about the Olympics," Feigen said.

"The Northside Swim Center is one of the top swimming facilities in the United States and will provide an excellent training environment as our athletes prepare for the 2016 Olympic Games," USA Swimming National Team Director Frank Busch said. "This is where the camaraderie of our team begins to take shape, and the staff and facility here will play a key role in setting up Team USA for success in Rio."

Area sports fans will get the opportunity to meet the team as one practice will be open to spectators. It will be followed by an autograph session.

"The whole swimming community's put a lot of faith in San Antonio to produce the kind of results we had in London again in Brazil," Feigen said. "I think they put a lot of faith in San Antonio and I don't see San Antonio letting them down."

The Northside Swim Center, which features a 50-meter, Olympic-size outdoor pool and 25-meter diving and warmup pool, was completed in July 2013."Hosting the 2016 U.S. Olympic Swimming Team at the Northside Swim Center is a tremendous honor for the Northside Independent School District, the city of San Antonio and all of Texas," said NISD Superintendent Dr. Brian T. Woods. "These amazing athletes will be an inspiration for student athletes of all ages in San Antonio, and we look forward to helping them prepare to represent the United States next summer."2016 U.S. Olympic swimming team schedule:
