Victims identified as Filiberto Lopez Mendoza, Magdalena Aguayo de Mendoza

SAN ANTONIO – Residents in a northeast Bexar County mobile home park reacted with shock Thursday that a couple died in an apparent murder-suicide.

A teenager was also stabbed during the deadly family disturbance, Bexar County Sheriff's Office officials said.

The victims were identified as Filiberto Lopez Mendoza, 54, and Magdalena Aguayo de Mendoza.

"It's just bad. Real bad. Something like that could happen that quick," said Cedric Peterson, a neighbor.

Some neighbors said, at least from the outside, the couple seemed happy.

"When I've walked by, I've seen them on the weekends throwing little get togethers. I wouldn't have expected it, you know," said Derwin Williams, a neighbor. "I didn't see them having any troubles or anything. That was just unexpected."

BCSO deputies responded to the family disturbance just before 9:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 8200 block of Montgomery Oak.

Investigators said a husband and wife got into an argument and Filiberto Mendoza stabbed Magdalena Mendoza before fatally shooting her.

Investigators believe Filiberto Mendoza turned the gun on himself shortly after the initial shooting and stabbings.

"A teenage child tried to break up the fight. In the process we believe he was stabbed by the man," said BCSO spokesman James Keith.

The teen was able to run away and get help. He was transported to San Antonio Military Medical Center in critical condition, Keith said.

"I just pray, put him in my prayers, man, and it's a shame," Williams said.

BCSO investigators did not release information about what sparked the argument between the couple.
