SAN ANTONIO – San Antonians on the West Side continued the Fiesta party Saturday with Pinatas en el Barrio.
Proceeds from the free event support projects and scholarships, primarily on the West Side.
Organizers unveiled the "Barrio's Largest Pinata" Saturday. Rey Feo also crowned the senior citizen king and queen of the barrio.
Pinatas en el Barrio started 18 years ago as a way to entertain people at an adult daycare.
Organizers said they worked with vendors to try to make the event affordable for everyone.
"People in the West Side, their income is pretty limited. So we asked them, 'Hey give us a deal on your funnel cake or your turkey leg.' Don't charge us an arm and a leg, so to speak," event organizer Rick Uriegas said.
The couple chosen as king and queen of the barrio will participate in the Battle of Flowers Parade and the Fiesta Flambeau Parade.
