Accused NE Side bank robber arrested

Charles Hernandez, 34, robbed BBVA Compass bank, police say

SAN ANTONIO – A man accused of robbing a bank on the city's Northeast Side earlier this week was arrested Thursday.

Police said Charles Hernandez, 34, robbed the BBVA Compass bank in the 3100 block of Thousand Oaks Drive Tuesday.

Hernandez reportedly walked into the bank and handed the teller a note before getting away with the money.

Witnesses said they saw the robber get into the passenger's side of a waiting U-Haul.

Officers found the U-Haul abandoned on the North Side a few hours later. Investigators were able to connect evidence in the truck with evidence from the bank to track down Hernandez.

He and another suspect were taken into custody after a brief struggle, police said. No one was hurt.
