SAN ANTONIO – The oil and gas sector has been at a steady slow pace for a while, but as of Wednesday it has shown signs of picking up.
The South Texas Oilfield Expo is attracting people in the oil industry and those looking to get a job.
Local companies and oil fields across South Texas are desperately trying to reel back from the pinch.
"We're definitely looking forward to an uptick. We definitely see some change and we're looking forward to it picking up a little bit," said Jason Hernandez with Cougar Cleaning Equipment.
The San Antonio-based Cougar Cleaning Equipment is one of the 390 booths at the South Texas Oilfield Expo.
The company rents and leases equipment to the big oil companies and when production fell they felt the effects, but in recent industry reports change is on the horizon.
"We've seen a momentum shift. A lot of people are real excited for a lot of good things coming up. We have been seeing some new companies come to the area," said Hernandez.
One of those new companies is Eagle Ford Mobile Network. The mobile community was created two years ago in San Antonio when the industry tanked.
The app connects all of South Texas oilfields. So, right on their smartphones users can track oil prices and what's affecting rates as well jobs.
"With the oil prices going down the companies have to find out ways to get lean, to get more innovative, to cut costs," said Marco Flores, founder, Eagle Ford Mobile Network
Signs of an upward shift are so strong even Palo Alto College was in attendance promoting their energy program.
The expo is going on again Thursday, July 30, at the Henry B, Gonzalez Convention Center from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
If you didn't register online, it's $20 at the door.
