Man dies after being shot, family seeks answers

SAN ANTONIO – The family of Arturo Salas-Gutierrez is looking for answers after he was shot in killed earlier this week.

"It's very sad because it's after the holidays and this is how we are starting off our year," said Veronica Gutierrez, Salas-Gutierrez’ niece.

Salas-Gutierrez was shot Tuesday night outside a convenience store on the city’s West Side. When police arrived they found him with several gunshot wounds. Salas-Gutierrez was with another man at the scene, he was uninjured.

"I actually received a phone call at work from my mom that my uncle was shot. We don't know why, we don't know how it happened," Gutierrez said.

Gutierrez believes her uncle was not the intended target. "It's a devastating moment for us right now because it is unexpected. He was never one to harm anyone or to hurt anyone," she said.

The family is hosting a plate sale on Saturday at 227 Southlawn Avenue to pay for funeral expenses.

Police believe the shooters are in a dark small four-door vehicle. Anyone with information is asked to call police.
