Family seeks justice, 4 years after fathers murder

The Collins family put up fliers Thursday evening, held vigil

SAN ANTONIO – The children of Jerry Collins are still wanting justice for their dad after he was killed in his trailer behind his hardware store off of Eisenhauer Road.

It has been four years since his death.

"I was woken up at 7 o'clock in the morning by his girlfriend," said Jim Collins, Jerry Collins' son. "And, she had called and said, 'Your father's been murdered.'"

The Collins family spent Thursday evening posting Crime Stoppers fliers throughout the neighborhood, still working to track down their father's killer.

"It's been a long, grueling four years," said Collins. "We'd like to see some closure to this.”

"We're almost certain we know who the perpetrators are and we're just waiting for the DA (district attorney) to move forward and process."

Family and friends then gathered outside the same mobile home where Jerry Collins was found brutally murdered.

"For those who were out there and involved, which are several people, I would like for you to keep in mind that for whatever charges are brought against the perpetuator that you will share those same charges, they are very severe," said Collins.

This past year, member of the Collins family also lost their mother, but on Thursday, they are remembering the good times with their father.

"Me and my dad, we spend a lot of time together fishing and camping and things of that nature," said Collins. "So, we had a pretty good relationship."

In addition to the Crime Stoppers reward of $5,000, the family is offering an additional $20,000 for any information leading to an arrest in this case. If you know something, you are asked to call 224-STOP.
