PORT ARANSAS, Texas – The Port Aransas city council has initiated a drinking ban ordinance.

The council’s decision Thursday was considered an emergency ordinance in response to spring break issues in the past.

In the past, the city has dealt with beer bottles being thrown at cars and aggressive behavior from vacationers during spring break.

Currently, Port Aransas bans drinking on the beach during the week from midnight to 7 a.m. and midnight to noon on the weekends.

The City Council has yet to decide what time and day the ban will start.
