BANDERA COUNTY, Texas – State authorities are investigating what led up to a Bandera County jail inmate’s death earlier this week.
The person told jail staff members they were not feeling well at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Bandera County Sheriff Josh Teitge told KSAT. Moments later, the sheriff said they collapsed in front of staff members.
Jail staff, and later emergency personnel, attempted to save the inmate’s life, Teitge said, but the person was pronounced dead.
The Bandera County Sheriff’s Office has since asked the Texas Rangers, who are a part of the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), to lead the investigation into the inmate’s death.
At this time, the sheriff’s office said it is not releasing any information regarding the inmate’s identity.
