Medina Co. Justice of the Peace arrested by TX Attorney General’s office, sheriff says

MEDINA COUNTY, Texas – The Texas Attorney General’s Office is investigating election complaints involving Medina County Justice of the Peace Judge Tomas “Tommy” Ramirez III and several others, Medina County Sheriff Randy Brown confirmed Saturday. Brown said he was contacted by the AG’s office in case they needed help making arrests on four warrants out of Bandera County. Ramirez and two others turned themselves in to Bandera County authorities, Brown said. A fourth wanted person may be out of town, the sheriff said. Brown said he didn’t have details on the warrants but said that officials with the AG’s office said the investigation involved “election complaints.”This is a developing story.

LEON VALLEY, Texas – Kathy Francis said her troubles with the Department of Public Safety started in March 2019, while applying to renew her driver’s license. The couple lives in rural Bandera County, meaning it made sense during a trip to town to stop by the driver’s license mega center on Huebner Road, in Leon Valley. Francis disclosed a bipolar disorder diagnosis on her March 2019 application to renew her driver's license. AdIt is unclear whether writing down PTSD on the application would have caused the state to flag Francis’ application. Francis' wife Kari has been forced to become her driver, after the state revoked Francis' license in September.

SAN ANTONIO – The chance to win the $1.05 billion Mega Millions jackpot has passed, but lottery fans have recently struck gold at several San Antonio-area stores. The data analyzed and visualized by KSAT below includes stores in Bexar, Comal, Kendall, Bandera, Medina, Atascosa, Wilson and Guadalupe counties that sold winning Texas Lottery tickets worth $600 or more last year. Records showed that three $5 million scratch-off tickets were sold in the last eight months. In June 2020 alone, NYS Food Mart at 4927 Rigsby Ave. and Roadster #18 at 8630 W. U.S. Highway 90 each sold scratch-off tickets worth that amount. It appears the NYS Food Mart is among the luckier stores in San Antonio, too: the store sold 17 winning scratch-off tickets total last year.

Bexar County bars must close; restaurants, businesses decrease to 50% capacity per Gov. Abbott’s executive order

SAN ANTONIO – Bexar County officials announced Monday that the county’s businesses now operating at 75% capacity will have to cut back to 50% capacity and all bars must close due to a rise in COVID-19 hospitalizations in the region. County officials said that threshold was met on Sunday. Bexar County is located in Trauma Service Area P.The order states that 50% occupancy limits are now in effect for most businesses. Earlier on Monday, Comal County officials announced the same restrictions there. Face coverings now mandated in Bandera County as COVID-19 cases surge

SAN ANTONIO – Face coverings will now be implemented in Bandera County due to a recent increase in COVID-19 cases. Greg Abbott’s mask orders, will require people to wear face coverings inside commercial buildings or in spaces open to the public when social distancing is not possible, with some exceptions. “Bandera County will be eligible to reapply for this exemption in 14 days if the County maintains 30 or less new COVID-19 cases during that timeframe,” he added. Greg Abbott has issued a statewide mandate on face coverings with these exceptions. County park, boat ramps at Medina Lake closed for July 4th weekend

SAN ANTONIO – Medina Lake Park in Bandera County will be closed this Fourth of July weekend due to the coronavirus pandemic. The park, which is operated by the county, will stay closed until Wednesday, July 8, due to the virus, according to officials. The boat ramp at the park will also be closed to the public. Medina Lake Park is just one of the dozens of recreational areas in Central and South Texas that will not be open during the biggest holiday of the summer due to the virus. Cameron County, which includes South Padre Island, has also announced all county parks and county beaches will be closed over the weekend.

Small plane makes emergency landing, collides with road sign

BANDERA COUNTY – A small plane made an emergency landing Saturday afternoon in Bandera County. Officials say the plane landed on Highway 16 S at Bear Creek Road around 5:30 p.m.It’s unknown what caused the emergency landing. However, officials say the plane’s wing did collide with a road sign as it landed. A Piper plane made an emergency landing near Highway 16 and Bear Creek Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020. The aircraft is a Piper plane, registered to a San Antonio charter service, per the FAA website.

Neighbors: Surveillance video captured someone cleaning blood at home where missing SA man was last seen

Wilfred Cabello, 37, was last seen at a home in the 1200 block of West French Place on Nov. 15. Neighbors said surveillance footage captured someone cleaning blood from the driveway of the home with a pressure washer. “This is the first time me or my wife have ever heard anything like this,” said Maurice Trevino, who lives on West French Plance. On Saturday, Trevino said Cabello’s family knocked on his door, searching for Cabello. He said he hopes justice is served for Cabello's family as soon as possible.
