Convicted killer accused in second killing; victim's mother shares heartbreak

Clarence Wright convicted in killing of Jeremiah Gomez

SAN ANTONIO – Just five months before he killed a man in a botched drug deal, Clarence Wright, 25, killed another man under similar circumstances, according to prosecutors.

On Tuesday, Wright was found guilty of killing Jeremiah Gomez in October of 2013.

During testimony in the punishment phase in that trial, prosecutors revealed that Wright had been indicted and was awaiting trial in the murder of Robert Moreno, 24, in May of 2013.

Both victims were shot in the head after answering a knock on their door and both were drug dealers, according to testimony in Wright’s trial.

On Wednesday, Moreno’s mother testified that her son’s murder changed her life forever.

“I will never be able to go back to work. I can’t,” Florinda Trejo said. “I can’t watch a movie that has anything like that because my mind just takes off. Nothing is the same.”

Testimony before Judge Jefferson Moore, who will decide Wright’s punishment, is expected to continue on Thursday.

Wright’s lawyers said they plan to call a mental health expert to testify.

Wright is facing a maximum punishment of life in prison.
