Erick Montez, 35, accused of sexually assaulting female inmate

Former detention officer Erick Montez was arrested last month when he was accused of sexually assaulting a female inmate he was transporting between county jail facilities in late December.

SAN ANTONIO – A Bexar County grand jury on Tuesday indicted a former Bexar County Sheriff's Office detention officer on charges that he sexually assaulted a female inmate.

Erick Montez, 35, faces charges of of sexual assault and violation of the civil rights of a person in custody.

According to officials, Montez was transporting a female inmate in December 2015, when he sexually assaulted her in a sheriff's office van in the jail parking lot. Montez claimed that it was consensual sex, but the victim said she was sexually assaulted. An investigation later revealed surveillance video that supported the victim's allegations.

Sexual assault is a second-degree felony, punishable by 2 to 20 years in prison and up to a $10,000.00 fine. Violation of the civil rights of a person in custody is a state jail felony, punishable by 180 days to two years in state jail and up to a $10,000 fine.
