SAN ANTONIO – Almost a week after Tejano legend Emilio Navaira passed away, fans packed Market Square again Friday night to honor him.
“My brother will never die," said Raulito Navaira in front of hundreds of fans. "Thank you for all the messages on Facebook and the phone calls and text messages."
He asked for prayers for his mother, nephews and for himself.
"The pain is unbearable," said Navaira. "But, the love we are receiving and the prayers and the support makes it a little easier."
Navaira told the crowd that his brother, Emilio, loved his fans and that he died at peace at home.
"The day that all this happened was such a terrible day and I wouldn't believe it and I wouldn't believe it until they took us in the room and we saw him."
Fans came out wearing Emilio shirts with #CelebrandoEmilio.
They also wore Spurs and Cowboys gear because Emilio Navaira was a big fan of both teams.
"I honored the Spurs too," Sheri Tucker said. "I pray for his family that they will be strong. We all love him. We all love Emilio."
To accommodate all his fans, Emilio Navaira's visitation will be held on Sunday at the Freeman Coliseum from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
