SA-area gun range owner donates Saturday proceeds to family hit by violence

John Murphy, 42, killed Sunday trying to stop robbers

SAN ANTONIO – A gun range owner is lending a hand to the family of a man who was fatally shot while trying to stop a crime.

John Murphy, 42, was killed Sunday when he attempted to stop two suspects from leaving the scene of a robbery.

The owner of LoneStar Handgun Shooting Range said when he heard the story, he was moved to help the Murphy family. He’s giving all of the business' Saturday proceeds to the family.

“As sad as it is, John Murphy was doing what any man should do to protect his family, and it's tragic that he got killed doing it. And it's not his fault that he was killed. It's the criminal's fault that he was killed,” said Josh Felker, president of LoneStar Handgun.

Felker said usually 200-300 people go to the range on Saturdays. He expected to see about 300-400 this Saturday.
