Sheriff Javier Salazar met with the whole class Tuesday morning.

He said apart from this class, the Sheriff's Office prides itself on having a larger female-to-male ratio than the national average.

"Overall, we're at about 25 percent countywide. We're doing great, but we can always do better,” Salazar said. “We're always, as an agency, looking to push ourselves to that next level, the way we're challenging our cadets to do the same thing."
