Local veterans take honor flight to Washington, D.C. memorials

SAN ANTONIO – More than a dozen local veterans are on a whirlwind trip to our nation’s capital.

The veterans took off from San Antonio International Airport Friday morning with the Honor Flight Program. Nineteen veterans boarded the flight.

The oldest veteran is 100 years old.

Some of the veterans even served together and haven't seen each other since.

"We’ve had some where they actually served on ships next to each other,” Court Van Sickler said.

Also on Friday morning's flight was Dorothy Lucas. She was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal.

Lucas flew administrative flights during World War II.

The group will visit the World War II Memorial and other memorials dedicated to military service before they jet back to San Antonio on Saturday.
