A baby was baptized aboard the future USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) on Saturday.
Lt. Emily Curran, of San Antonio, and Lt. John “Jack” Curran, of Silver Spring, Maryland, had their son baptized in the ship’s bell.

The tradition of baptizing babies in ship bells comes from the British Royal Navy.
By tradition, the baby's name will be engraved inside the ship's bell, which will remain on the ship throughout its 50 years of commissioned service, according to a Facebook post.
