SAN ANTONIO – The funeral for slain San Antonio police Officer Miguel Moreno has been set for 10 a.m. Friday at Community Bible Church.

Moreno, a nine-year veteran with the San Antonio Police Department, was shot and killed Thursday by a suspect identified as Andrew Bice following a confrontation near San Antonio College north of downtown.

Moreno and his partner Julio Cavazos -- who is also a nine-year veteran -- were responding to a suspicious-person call when they approached two suspects in the 200 block of West Evergreen Street.

Police said Bice opened fired on the two officers as they were exiting their patrol vehicle as they were attempting to question him and the second suspect, identified as 30-year-old William Lawson.

Despite being shot in the chin, Cavazos, 36, was able to drag Moreno to the front of the vehicle away from the line of fire and shoot Bice in the buttocks.

The medical examiner ruled Bice’s death a suicide.
