Text 911 service is down in San Antonio

Calling 911 isn't affected

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Police Department says its dispatch service is having technical difficulties with the "text 911" service.

Texts to 911 are not going through.

Calls to 911 are not affected and are currently working normally.

The text 911 system has been in place since May 2015 for people in Bexar, Comal and Guadalupe counties.

It's meant for people with hearing or speech impairments, or for when speaking out loud could put someone in danger.

Just like with calling 911, prank texts or false reports via text are illegal, and you can be prosecuted.
