‘No one deserves to go in such a horrific way,' daughters say

Joseph Torres, 37, killed on Aug. 14

SAN ANTONIO – The daughters of a man who was shot and killed outside a Southeast Side bar are opening up about the tragic loss they are experiencing.

Jillian, Alyssa and Ava Torres are trying to make peace with losing their dad.

“There’s no bringing him back,” Jillian Torres said.

Joseph Torres, 37, was gunned down in the patio of The Fabulous Texas Sugartime Bar on Aug. 14. San Antonio police interviewed several witnesses, but have not made an arrest. Police declined to say if any of the cameras inside and outside the establishment captured the incident.

Friends told KSAT he was a regular at the bar.

The Torres family said it wished it was all a bad dream. The girls described their father as easygoing and carefree.

“He was a good man and no one deserves to go in such a horrific way,” Jillian Torres said.

Ava Torres, 12, said she considered her dad her best friend.

“Appreciate the time you have with everyone you love, because you actually don’t know when they're going to leave,” she said.

The girls recalled the last conversations they had with their dad and wish they could go back in time.

“When he left, I kind of just said, ‘Bye, dad,’ and he walked out the door,” Ava Torres said.

Funeral plans are pending but the family has established an online fundraiser. Click here for more information.
