KSAT 12 digital journalist Erica Hernandez was having breakfast with her family in Poth.
With her mother being a first responder, scanner traffic was the white noise to life.
But Nov. 5, 2017, was different. The tones on the scanner were different.
Moments later, Hernandez, a Wilson County native, made a beeline to the scene. Minutes before, her mother did the same.
Hernandez was the first of what ended up being hundreds of members of the media that descended upon the small town of Sutherland Springs to cover the church shooting.
Soon after, KSAT 12 reporters Max Massey and Garrett Brnger were there, and would return off and on for the next week.
The three reporters sat down with GMSA @ 9 anchors Leslie Mouton and Mark Austin to talk about what it was like being on the scene within hours of the mass shooting and the people, the town, the heartbreak.
