Icy conditions factor in huge car pileup on Loop 410 ramp

At least 26 vehicles involved in pileup on Loop 410 ramp to West Avenue

SAN ANTONIO – At least 26 vehicles were involved in a pileup accident this early Friday morning on the Loop 410 Eastbound ramp to West Avenue.

According to Castle Hills Fire Chief Darrell Dover, they were notified around 7:05 a.m. about a multiple vehicle accident.

Fire units and police arrived at the scene and began treating patients involved in the crash.

Dover said a woman in her 50’s was trapped inside a vehicle. He said her foot was pinned.

“She was basically wedged between. There was four vehicles wedged into the exit ramp so it made it pretty good challenge to get her out,” Dover said.

She was eventually removed from the vehicle and transported to University Hospital.

Russell Tounget who was involved in the crash remembers seeing the woman in pain.

“I saw one lady that was hurt. Her car had gotten flipped over and going the other direction on the bridge and it looked like she had opened up the driver door and tried to exit the vehicle and then as more impacts came in the door slammed on her leg,” Tounget said.

Fire Chief Dover could not say what caused the crash, but said it was icy when they arrived to the scene.
