SAN ANTONIO – A 16-year-old boy is back in custody after an official said the boy climbed over a razor wire fence to escape a Bexar County juvenile center on the city’s Southside.

The official said the teenage boy escaped around 1:08 p.m. from the Cyndi Taylor Krier Juvenile Correctional Treatment Center, also known as the Krier Center.

A spokeswoman for the juvenile center said the boy was in line with his unit during recreational time when he ran away and climbed over the fence.

The spokeswoman said the teen boy was able to climb over the fence despite it having both barbed and concertina wire on the top, and it being higher than the rest of the fencing.

A Bexar County constable spotted the teen boy hiding in some brush near a local construction company site after nearly an hour on the run, the official said.

The spokeswoman said the juvenile could face charges of felony escape, violation of probation conditions and unauthorized absence.

According to the spokeswoman, the boy's criminal history ranges from evading arrest to a misdemeanor charge of terroristic threat and another for assault on a public servant.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, Bexar County Constable Pct. 4, a K-9 unit and the Eagle helicopter were all called to assist in the search.

According to the spokeswoman, the teenage boy did not have any visible injuries.
