JISD: Gun found at Kirby Middle School was loaded, student may face felony charges

SAN ANTONIO – Judson Independent School District spokesperson Steve Linscomb confirmed to KSAT that a gun found on a middle school campus Thursday morning was loaded.

A Kirby Middle School student was found with the small handgun. The student was detained and removed from campus following an anonymous tip from a fellow student who said that another student was in possession of a weapon on campus.

According to Linscomb, the student who brought the gun may face felony charges.

Linscomb did not say what the student's academic punishment would be. The age or grade of the student was not immediately released.

A letter went out to parents from Principal Jerome Johnson addressing the situation around 9:30 a.m. Thursday, reading in part, "We went into a brief lockdown to ensure safety.  The campus has returned to normal school operations."

The campus was on lockdown for approximately 15 minutes while officers handled the situation, according to the district.
